Alphonse Mucha
The second canvas of The Slav Epic, showing the festival for the god Svantovít on the island of Rügen. A dense crowd in white fills the lower half, a woman in a violet cloak holding a child in the front row, while above them gods and warriors hover in the sky beneath an oak thick with golden leaves. The figures in the sky and the golden foliage are the landmarks; the small, finely worked crowd below takes the most patience.
