Evening Contemplation, the third of the four Times of the Day panels of 1899. A red-haired woman sits with knees drawn up and eyes closed, her grey-blue drapery trailing, while tall grasses, pink flowers and dusky branches sink into the green of twilight behind her. The Gothic-arch window and gilt frame are shared by all four panels and make a good start; inside, the red hair and blue robe are the landmarks and the dim background comes last.
