The poster for Alfred de Musset's Lorenzaccio in 1896, with Sarah Bernhardt in the male role of Lorenzo de' Medici. Lorenzo stands in a dark doublet and long hose, chin in hand and lost in thought with a book, while a dragon coils in the arch above him, Florence's tyranny. In these quiet tan and grey-green tones the title, the dragon and the actress's name running vertically at left are the landmarks; the black costume follows its outline.
