The Church at Auvers
Vincent van Gogh
The village church of Auvers-sur-Oise, where van Gogh spent the last two months of his life, seen from the east end in June 1890. The building seems to sway and bend beneath a deep cobalt-blue sky, while a woman walks along a sandy path that forks in two in the foreground. The blue sky looks like one broad field, but the direction of the strokes changes from place to place, which helps in placing its pieces.
