The Langlois Bridge at Arles
Vincent van Gogh
A wooden drawbridge over the canal south of Arles, painted in May 1888. Named after its keeper, Langlois, the bridge was a motif van Gogh painted several times that spring. Here a woman with a parasol crosses the bridge, two cypresses stand on the left bank, and the clear sky and canal water fill most of the canvas; the timber beams and cables of the bridge make the clearest landmarks.
