Roses
Vincent van Gogh
One of four flower still lifes van Gogh painted in May 1890, just before leaving the asylum at Saint-Rémy. A mass of roses fills a green vase against a pale green wall, with a few blooms fallen on the table. They now look white, but they were painted pink; the light-sensitive red pigment has faded, leaving only traces of pink along the tabletop and in some petals.
