Road with Cypress and Star
Vincent van Gogh
A night road painted in May 1890, shortly before van Gogh left Saint-Rémy. A cypress splits the picture down the middle, with a blazing star on one side and a thin crescent moon on the other; below, two men walk along the road, a cart drawn by a yellow horse approaches and a lit window glows in an inn beyond. Sky, wheat and road are all covered in short, thick strokes, and their direction is the best guide when matching pieces.
