Olive Trees
Vincent van Gogh
An olive grove near the asylum at Saint-Rémy, painted in November 1889. Van Gogh painted at least fifteen pictures of olive trees that year; here twisted trunks and blue-green foliage curl like flames, while the ground is laid in slanting bands of short yellow, orange, green and blue strokes. Find the trunks and the small red flowers at lower right first, then follow the tilt of the coloured bands across the ground.
