The Red Vineyard
Vincent van Gogh
Grape pickers at work near Arles in November 1888, under a yellow setting sun, with the autumn vines flaming red. Sunlight glints on the water on the right, and a cart passes in the distance. In 1890 the Belgian painter Anna Boch bought it for 400 francs at an exhibition in Brussels; it is often cited as the only painting van Gogh is known for certain to have sold in his lifetime.
