Vienna, Christmas Market Am Hof

Private collection

Zajicek's 1922 watercolour of the Christmas market Am Hof, little larger than a postcard. White-roofed stalls line up before the baroque façade of the Am Hof church and the Marian Column, while in front a man carries off a fir tree and women in furs walk through the snow. A sky touched with sunset light and smoke drifting from the chimneys give the feel of a winter evening.
