Gingerbread Stand at the Christmas Market

Belvedere, Vienna

A gingerbread stall at a Christmas market, painted by the Viennese artist Leopold Till. Honey cakes baked in the shapes of figures crowd the display, and a small boy reaches up to point at one while a girl looks on, her hand to her mouth; the stallholder in a dark coat waits on a crate. The word Lebzelter (gingerbread maker) chalked on the board and the decorated fir tree at right are useful landmarks.
