A Christmas market at nightfall, painted in watercolour in 1922 by the Viennese artist Georg Janny, who also worked as a stage-set painter. Lit stalls line a square with a tall column at its centre, and in front a man with a fir tree over his shoulder walks with a child past women in furs. The lettering CHRISTKINDL-MARKT at lower left is both the title and a landmark for the puzzle.
