A Christmas custom painted in 1846 by the Norwegian national-romantic painter Adolph Tidemand: a sheaf of grain on a pole is hoisted above the snowy roof of a storehouse to feed the birds. Villagers in traditional dress gather at the storehouse steps, flocks of birds circle overhead, and a boy lies sprawled in the snow at the lower left. In 1867 it became the very first work bought for the permanent collection in Trondheim.
