Lovis Corinth wrote 24 December 1913 at the upper left of this picture of the Bescherung, the giving of presents on Christmas Eve, with adults and children gathered before a lit tree. Tree, figures and gifts melt into quick, broad strokes: close up they are patches of colour, but from a step back the glitter of the candles comes alive. Colour leads over form here, so in the puzzle it helps to follow the direction of the brushstrokes.
