A Christmas Fairy Tale
Rolf von Hoerschelmann
Rolf von Hoerschelmann's picture for the issue of the Munich weekly Jugend dated 20 December 1924: in a snowy forest under a starry sky, two gnomes in red caps dig up a small fir tree with spades. A white-bearded old man in a long robe, leaning on a staff, looks on, and a roe deer, a hare and a large stag watch from the edges. Jugend is the magazine that gave Jugendstil, the German-speaking world's Art Nouveau, its name.
