A portrait of the three Buderus children with their Christmas presents, painted in 1866 and now in the Historisches Museum Frankfurt. Under a candlelit tree, a rocking horse, dolls, a toy village and a picture book lie on a white tablecloth; a boy crawls out from beneath it, a toddler holding a doll looks down, and an older girl in white peeps from behind a red curtain. It looks like a moment from a game of hide-and-seek.
