Christmas Eve dinner in Carl Larsson's home at Sundborn in Sweden, painted in watercolour in 1904–05, with children and household filing in carrying dishes. The long table holds a roast, cheese and glasses engraved with names, a fire and a seven-branched candlestick light the room, and an old man dozes in a wing chair at the right. Small stories hide in every corner, down to the cat peering out from under the table.
