Hinterstoder, a mountain village in Upper Austria, painted in 1921. A trail of footprints climbs a sunlit snow slope towards a white farmhouse and a timber barn, with stacked logs at right and a grey rock face rising behind. Poell was a gynaecologist in Linz as well as a painter, and a member of the Vienna Secession from 1913; the blue shadows on the snow show his strong, decorative colour.
