A January Evening in the Woods of The Hague
Louis Apol
The Haagse Bos, the old wood beside the centre of The Hague, at dusk in winter, with a small wooden bridge over a ditch at the centre. Faint evening light filters between the snow-covered trees, and a couple of birds cross the quiet wood. Apol, a Hague School painter who specialised in snowy woods, painted it in his mid-twenties, and it entered the museum collection the same year.
