Snowy Hut
Caspar David Friedrich
A small snow-covered shelter with pollarded willows spreading their branches behind it, painted in 1827 on a canvas only about 31 cm high. The door has come off its hinges and leans in the dark entrance, a sign that no one has used the hut for a long time. Friedrich often placed such humble motifs at the centre of a picture to speak of transience and solitude.
