October from The Months (1899), the calendar series of twelve circular vignettes. A woman with long brown hair sits looking out at us, a blue-grey shawl wrapped round her shoulders and arms over a pink skirt, with yellowing autumn leaves and a pale green field behind. The word OCTOBRE and the face are the landmarks; the broad blue-grey shawl is plain and is matched by the direction of its folds.
