April from The Months (1899), the calendar series of twelve circular vignettes. A woman with dark curls pinned up, her pale yellow dress streaming, rests one hand on her cheek and reaches with the other toward branches of white spring blossom, the whole circle kept in soft pastel. The word AVRIL and the dark hair and face are the landmarks; the white blossom and pale yellow dress are close in colour and are told apart by the shapes of the flowers.
