A lithograph after Flaubert's novel Salammbô, published in the album L'Estampe Moderne. Salammbô, in a peacock-feather headdress and heavy gold necklaces, stands on a step with her white robe trailing and arms spread, a figure in orange kneels at her feet plucking a harp, and lotus flowers and incense bowls sit below against a swirling golden ground. The peacock feathers, the wavy gold background and the white bowls and flowers below are the landmarks; the white robe follows its folds.
