The garden of the house Monet rented at Vétheuil on the Seine, painted in 1881. A sunlit path lined with towering sunflowers leads up a flight of steps to the house, a small child stands on the path, and blue-and-white pots sit in the foreground. It is a large upright canvas; the sunflower heads and the pots are good landmarks for splitting up the greenery on either side.
