An old birch leans across a winter stream at sunset, snow lying along each branch. The orange glow is reflected in the water and warms the snow-roofed cottage and small boat on the far bank, while fine cracks in the old paint run across the sky. Klever, a Russian painter of Baltic German descent, was popular for exactly this kind of glowing winter evening.
