A summer wheat field near the asylum at Saint-Rémy, a studio repetition painted in September 1889 of a canvas made outdoors that July. A dark cypress rises like a flame on the right, while swirling white clouds and wind-blown golden wheat are laid down in thick, rhythmic strokes. The cypress and the lilac line of hills are good places to start; the sky goes together by following the direction of each curl of cloud.
