A double rainbow stands over the fields after a shower, but the blind street musician clutching her concertina cannot see it; only her little sister turns to look. The girl feels the world through the sun on her face and the blade of grass in her hand. Millais joins minute landscape detail to compassion at the height of Pre-Raphaelite painting.
