An Alpine road in Haute-Savoie by Ivan Choultsé, a St Petersburg-born landscape painter who worked in exile in the West after the Russian Revolution. The last light of the day turns the peaks pink and orange, while two skiers make their way along the shadowed valley road between banks of snow. Choultsé was known for backlit snow, and the contrast between the blue snow in shade and the sunlit slopes carries this picture.
