Children walking home from school through falling snow, by the Viennese painter and watercolourist Carl Goebel. Girls wrapped in shawls carry baskets with slates and books, the girl in the middle balances a bundle on her head, and several of them walk barefoot in the snow, with an onion-domed church tower behind. Painted in watercolour and white gouache on brown-toned paper, the snowflakes stand out bright against the warm ground.
