Winter Afternoon (Crow Reservation)
Joseph Henry Sharp
A winter afternoon on the Crow Reservation in Montana. Bare trees throw long blue shadows across the snow, and beyond a thicket of red-brown brush a snowy mountain range recedes in violet. Sharp, best known for his paintings of Native Americans and later a founding member of the Taos Society of Artists, built a cabin on Crow Agency land in 1905 and lived and worked there.
