The wife of a Viennese banker wrapped in gold and silver leaf, the summit of Klimt's golden period. Only the face and hands are painted naturalistically; dress and background dissolve into eyes, spirals and triangles that recall Byzantine mosaics. Seized by the Nazis and returned to the family in 2006, its story became the film "Woman in Gold".
