Renoir's friends linger after lunch on the terrace of a restaurant at Chatou on the Seine. The woman holding a little dog is Aline Charigot, later his wife, and the painter Caillebotte sits at lower right. Bottles, fruit, straw hats and the striped awning all catch the light in what is often called the happiest picture of Impressionism.
