In a rehearsal room of the Paris Opera the ballet master Jules Perrot leans on his stick and watches the girls. Degas preferred the backstage truth of waiting, boredom and a scratched back to the perfect moment on stage. The oblique viewpoint, the mirror and the poster on the wall give the room its depth.
