A Happy Christmas (Santa Putting a Child in His Sack)
Unknown
A Christmas postcard from around 1900 in which Santa Claus, in a snowy wood, lowers a startled child towards his big sack. The scene recalls the old European tradition that the Christmas visitor rewards good children and carries off naughty ones, though the open-mouthed child and the gold-starred red robe give it a comic edge. The gilt-spotted sack and the words A Happy Christmas at the top are the landmarks.
