A Christmas postcard from around 1911: two boys have a snowball fight outside a village church at night while people climb the steps into its glowing doorway. A clock tower, lit Gothic windows, a crescent moon and dark firs set the scene, and footprints lead across the snow. The evergreen bough with its gold bell at the top and the gilt greeting at the bottom frame the picture.
