Collection

Private collection

A winter landscape painted in 1887 in Perthshire, Scotland, where the Millais family rented a house through the 1880s. An old castle stands among bare trees under a rose-tinted dusk sky, and a few rooks forage on a snowfield marked with footprints. The broad white field has little colour variation, so the rooks, footprints and tree trunks are the landmarks for the puzzle.
