Private collection

A fairy-tale Christmas scene painted by the Austrian artist Oskar Laske in 1925 in watercolour heightened with white. Outside the window, under a crescent moon and stars, an antlered deer and a golden bear lean on the sill to look in, while an old man in an armchair points towards them and a girl stands holding a wrapped present. A toy train, a teddy bear, a doll and the glittering tree are set down in loose, cheerful lines.
