Miranda – The Tempest
John William Waterhouse
From Shakespeare's The Tempest: Miranda leans against a rock and watches a ship break apart in the storm her father Prospero has raised by magic. The sea wind whips her red hair and deep blue gown, and at upper left a sailing ship heels over in the surf. Waterhouse painted it in 1916, a year before his death.
