Sorolla's wife Clotilde and daughter María walk into the breeze on the beach at Valencia in white dresses. The folds of sunlit cloth, the parasol and the hat ribbon are laid in with broad strokes so that the Mediterranean light itself seems to arrive. It is the best-loved picture by the "painter of light".
