The Fighting Temeraire

The Temeraire, a hero of Trafalgar, is towed by a small steam tug to be broken up. The pale, ghostly sailing ship, the tug belching black smoke and the blazing sunset together mourn the end of the age of sail. Voted Britain's favourite painting, it now appears on the twenty-pound note.
