Rembrandt's only seascape: in a storm the disciples wrestle with the sail, vomit and pray while Christ wakes in the stern. The man gripping a rope and looking out at us is Rembrandt himself. Stolen from the Gardner Museum in Boston in 1990 and never recovered, its empty frame still hangs on the wall.
