Private collection

A mountain valley after heavy snow has cleared, with a single log hut and firs bowed under their load. Snow swells into soft round cushions along the stream, and the white peak and pale sky add a cold brightness. Choultsé, a Russian painter who later emigrated to France, was influenced by Kuindzhi; his precise, almost photographic snow scenes became widely known through postcards.
