Private collection

Woodworkers haul a cart loaded with an enormous log out of a bare winter wood, helped by a team of three horses. The men lever the wheels forward with poles, a fire burns at left, and the wheels cut deep ruts in the wet snow under a grey sky. Geibel was a German painter based in Weimar, known for portraits, landscapes and battle scenes.
