A poster of 1897 for Sarah Bernhardt as Photine, the Samaritan woman at the well, in Edmond Rostand's La Samaritaine. Bernhardt stands with long fair hair loose over a grey-blue robe, a red water jar on her hip, and the round halo behind her head carries her name in Hebrew-style lettering. The mosaic of the halo, the jar and the text band at the bottom are the landmarks, while the broad grey-blue robe is pieced along its folds.
