The poster of 1898 for Sarah Bernhardt in Catulle Mendès's Médée. Hooded and robed in black, Medea grips a bloody dagger with wide eyes, her children's bodies lie at her feet and a red sun rises behind her head; the snake bracelet on her arm was later made for Bernhardt by Mucha with the jeweller Georges Fouquet. The sun disc, the title and the vertical lettering on the right are the landmarks; the broad black robe is the hardest part.
