Yellow Cow

Franz Marc

Painted

Collection

Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York

A bright yellow cow leaps with its tail in the air against blue mountains and red earth. For Marc yellow was the gentle, cheerful, feminine colour; the blue patches on the cow's flank and the black tree trunks at right hold the composition together. The colours fall into clear blocks, which makes it a friendly puzzle.
