En una sala de ensayo de la Ópera de París el maestro de ballet Jules Perrot se apoya en su bastón y observa a las muchachas. Degas prefería la verdad de entre bastidores —la espera, el aburrimiento, una espalda que se rasca— al momento perfecto en escena. El punto de vista oblicuo, el espejo y el cartel de la pared dan profundidad a la sala.
