One of the first images released by the James Webb Space Telescope in July 2022: a star-forming region at the edge of the Carina Nebula. What looks like a moonlit mountain range is the rim of a vast cloud of gas being eroded by the ultraviolet light and winds of newborn stars, and the tallest peaks are about seven light-years high.
