The Earth photographed on 7 December 1972 by the crew of Apollo 17 on their way to the Moon, from about 29,000 km away. The Sun was behind them, a rare moment when the whole planet appeared fully lit, with Africa, Antarctica and the Arabian Peninsula clear among the clouds. It is one of the most reproduced photographs in history.
