Poppy Field

Claude Monet

Painted
1873
Collection
Musée d'Orsay, Paris

Poppies scattered red across a field near Argenteuil, with a woman holding a parasol and a child appearing twice, at the top and bottom of the slope. They are Monet's wife Camille and son Jean, and the two pairs give a rhythm of walking down the hill. It was shown at the first Impressionist exhibition in 1874.
